SAFCOL Learning and Development Opportunities 2025–2026
The South African Forestry Company SOC Limited (SAFCOL) continues to empower South Africa’s youth through transformative learning and development initiatives in the forestry sector. As a leading state-owned enterprise, SAFCOL plays a critical role in advancing sustainable forestry while driving socio-economic growth, job creation, and skills development.
Learning and development remain a strategic priority for SAFCOL. Its initiatives not only support government skills development frameworks but also strengthen the company’s corporate strategy by building a competent, future-ready workforce. Through a combination of structured programmes, accredited training, and community partnerships, SAFCOL ensures that both employees and surrounding communities have the tools to thrive in the forestry and processing industries.
Promoting Inclusive Growth through Education
SAFCOL’s commitment extends beyond internal capacity building. The company invests in training communities—including land claimants—living adjacent to its operations, to alleviate poverty and unemployment while fostering positive relationships. A strong emphasis is placed on empowering Black women, youth from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, and persons living with disabilities.
By equipping individuals with industry-relevant skills, SAFCOL contributes to a broader national vision of transformation and inclusive economic growth. Its programmes also aim to promote forestry as a career of choice, ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled professionals for the future.
The Platorand Training Centre
All SAFCOL learning and development programmes are coordinated through the Learning and Development (L&D) Unit, a division of the company’s Human Capital Management and Transformation Department. The Platorand Training Centre, located in Sabie, Mpumalanga, serves as the operational hub for training activities.
Platorand is accredited by the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FP&M SETA) and the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA). It is also an active member of the Forestry Industry Training Providers Association. All training activities are governed by SAFCOL’s Learning & Development Policy and Bursary Policy, ensuring alignment with national education standards and sectoral best practices.
