We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Farm Manager

Location: Ijaiye Orile, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

  • The Farm Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations and strategic management of a 185-hectare farm focused on maize and cassava production in Oyo State, Nigeria.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and optimizing crop production and farm operations to ensure efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.
  • The role demands a dynamic professional with strong leadership, agricultural expertise, and proven experience in managing medium- to large-scale crop production systems within Nigeria or similar environments.

Key Responsibilities
Crop Production Management:

  • Develop and implement annual and seasonal crop production plans for maize and cassava in line with best agronomic practices.
  • Supervise all land preparation, planting, crop maintenance, pest/disease control, fertilization, irrigation, and harvesting activities.
  • Monitor crop performance through field visits, data collection, and analysis to optimize yields and reduce production costs.
  • Ensure timely and efficient use of inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
  • Adopt innovative and sustainable farming methods that enhance soil health and environmental conservation.

Operations and Resource Management:

  • Oversee maintenance and effective utilization of all farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Schedule and supervise repair and servicing of tractors, planters, harvesters, and other machinery to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain farm records including input usage, labor, production, and inventory.
  • Coordinate procurement of inputs, spare parts, and other farm supplies in a cost-effective and transparent manner.
  • Develop and enforce operational safety standards across all farm activities.

Personnel and Leadership Management:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff and laborers, ensuring adherence to performance standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to field supervisors and workers.
  • Foster a positive and disciplined work culture that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Monitor staff performance and implement training programs to build local capacity.

Financial and Administrative Management:

  • Prepare and manage farm budgets, including forecasting input requirements and operational costs.
  • Track expenditures and revenues, ensuring adherence to financial targets.
  • Prepare periodic reports on production performance, resource utilization, and financial outcomes for management review.
  • Liaise with relevant government agencies, agricultural input suppliers, and market buyers.

Compliance, Quality, and Sustainability:

  • Ensure the farm complies with all relevant agricultural, environmental, and labor regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and environmental protection.
  • Promote sustainable agricultural practices including soil conservation, crop rotation, and efficient water use.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in crop science and adopt relevant technologies and innovations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Annual maize and cassava yield per hectare.
  • Operational cost per hectare versus budget.
  • Timeliness and efficiency of planting and harvest operations.
  • Equipment uptime and maintenance efficiency.
  • Labor productivity and compliance with farm safety standards.
  • Overall profitability and sustainability of farm operations.

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:

  • A First Degree (B.Sc. or B.Agric) in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Economics, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in managing medium or large-scale farms, preferably with a focus on maize and cassava.
  • Demonstrated experience in farm planning, crop scheduling, and production management.
  • Proven competence in farm machinery operation and maintenance supervision.
  • Familiarity with Oyo State agricultural ecosystems, soil types, and climatic conditions will be an added advantage.

Desirable Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent strategic and operational planning abilities.
  • Proficiency in farm record-keeping, budgeting, and basic computer applications (MS Office, Excel).
  • Sound knowledge of mechanized farming and modern agronomic practices.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
  • High level of integrity, discipline, and initiative.

Working Conditions:

  • The position is based on-site at the 185-hectare farm in Oyo State. The Farm Manager will be provided with accommodation on farm site, transportation, and communication facilities.
  • The role requires frequent field supervision and occasional long working hours during peak farming seasons.
  • The requirement is for the fam manager to be able to stay on the farm from Monday to Saturday every week. An extra accommodation will be provided at the Garri factory in Ijaiye Orile

Remuneration
A competitive salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, including potential performance-based incentives.
