Call for Proposals: Canada Smart Agriculture Grant Program 2025

Deadline: 14-November-2025

The Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks has been announced to support innovation and problem-solving within Canada’s agri-food sector.

This call for proposals aims to develop actionable projects that address key challenge areas identified by the Governments of British Columbia and Ontario. Applicants are invited to create project action plans and implement solutions that respond directly to these priority problem statements. Proposals may focus on one or more of the challenges, depending on the applicant’s expertise and approach.

Through this initiative, five grants of up to CAD 100,000 each will be awarded. Each project will run for a maximum of twelve months and must include research, testing, validation, and final reporting activities. The program operates on a cost-reimbursement model, covering up to 50 percent of eligible expenses. Applicants must secure the remaining portion of the project funding from other sources, and reimbursements will only be issued once a fully executed Ultimate Recipient Contribution Agreement has been returned to CENGN.

To qualify for funding, applicants must be registered organizations in Canada with 499 or fewer full-time employees. The proposed technology solution must be deployable within a CENGN Living Lab, and each proposal must include a comprehensive budget detailing eligible project costs. At least 90 percent of the supported work must take place in Canada, ensuring that the benefits of innovation remain within the national ecosystem.

Applicants must also declare their total government financial assistance. For industry collaborators, combined support may not exceed 75 percent of eligible costs, while post-secondary collaborators may receive up to 100 percent support. All participants are required to sign a participation agreement as part of the process.

Additionally, applicants must demonstrate solid financial management capacity by providing a recent credit review, such as a Dun & Bradstreet report, and a two-year cash flow forecast. This funding call presents an important opportunity for Canadian innovators to contribute to strengthening the agri-food sector by developing and testing new technologies that address pressing challenges in sustainability, productivity, and resilience.
